THE FIRST FISH SPAWNING RACE to be incorporated in a hydro-electric project in New Zealand being built downstream of the powerhouse at Aviemore, the New Zealand Electricity Department’s new dam and power station in the Waitaki basin. The race will accommodate about 3000 trout, and will compensate for the loss of spawning grounds which will be inaccessible when the dam is finished next year.
