Spotswood Record Broken By Lordship

A large crowd was attracted to the Spotswood Trotting Club’s meeting at Spotswood on Saturday to see Lordship, and they were not disappointed when the Johnny Globe stallion easily broke the track record for one mile and a half.

His time of 3:9 was six seconds inside the record set by Julie Hanover on the corresponding day last year. Lordship was in front after a furlong in the first leg of |the double and was easing up at the finish 20 lengths clear of Town Martial and the trotter Russell, which put up a sound performance. Lordship’s next race will be in the Kaikoura Cup on October 30. Rola Coaster plugged on from the back for fourth ahead of Caplin, Barbuda and Queen’s Cord. Lords, a brother and stablemate of Lordship, credited the Nyhan stable with its second winner of the day when he accounted for the first division of the Cheviot Handicap. The first double. Lordship in the Sowing Free-for-all and Prince Forbes in the Spotswood Challenge Stakes, paid $32. The second double. Belmartial in the Amberley Handicap and Errand Boy in the Thunder Handicap paid $59.55. Disturb, a sister to Disband, showed promise when she won the first qualifying trial in 3:20. Her stablemate, Global Hall, proved a class above the opposition when she defeated a small field by 25 lengths In another qualifying heat. Her time of 3:24 2-5 could have been improved considerably but she was not driven out over the final furlong. The weather was hot and the track was fast. Results: KAIKOURA HANDICAP; 2:20
