Royal Walk And Rhyl Impress

Outstanding winning performances in restricted age events by Royal Walk and Rhyl highlighted the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Another fine individual effort was returned by the four-year-old, Fort Nelson, in the Recovery Handicap.

Royal Walk, last season's New Zealand Sapling Stakes winner, had to be really good to win the City Handicap. He broke badly at the start and paced unevenly in the middle stages before being checked on at least twice. At one stage he was 75 yards from the lead.

Royal Walk sprinted up to be three lengths from Viva Zabata and Imperial Wayracing to the straight. In spite of having to make so much ground. Royal Walk had plenty in reserve and he coasted past the post two lengths in front of Imperial Way, with an even longer break to Viva Zabata, which was 12 lengths in front of Santa Claus. Rhyl improved to third with live furlongs left in the St. Ktlda Handicap. Ha joined Johnny Kara in the lead on the home turn and was soon in control. He won by more than a length from Valley Cirl. which looked to be well beaten at the half-mile. Johnny Kawa battled on for third, ahead of Master Kent.

Fort Nelson, one of the top three-year-olds of last season, had his second start after a spell in the Recovery Handicap. He was handy all the way and took charge with slightly less

(than three furlongs left. He was clear of Prospector by three lengths racing to the straight, i but was soon in trouble. Even I though tiring, he responded , well under pressure and won 1 by a short length from Prospeci tor. Fort Nelson should be in for a good season. Prospector was unchallenged ' for second, being clear of I Proudly, which came home well from a good way back. Rhyl, after losing ground at the start, put in an amazing run to finish fourth. ahead of Mitcham. Stewart Hanover, which was never a danger, and Goldmount. Viewin, a good second on the first night, gained an all-the-way win in the two-mile Ken- ! sington Handicap. At the finish ' she had a neck to spare over a solid finisher in Norlight, which was well clear of WaiI taki Smoke and Warily. The hot favourite Dawn Peter- ' son. left her rivals struggling 'in her wake in the Seaview {Handicap. Palaquis, late workI ing clear, came fast for second. I ahead of the pacemaker, Eden • Star, and Golden Sun. The Viewin-Dawn Peterson combination paid $10.70 for $l. The Viewin-Palaquis concession paid $12.85 for $l. Stella Globe, a (air fourth a week earlier, had too much pace for her rivals in the Spring Handicap. She beat Flying Nominee by half a length, with Markalan, which was hard pressed for the lead in the early stages, a good third. Bonny Strathair made up ground for fourth, ahead of 1 Flying Minstrel.
