10th Title Success In Women’s Fencing
Mrs O. Jekyll (United) scored her tenth successive win in the women’s electric foil event when the Canterbury fencing championships were held at Wigram during the week-end. This is a record never before equalled in the province, and possibly in New Zealand. G. Low (University) won all three senior men’s titles and the most coveted trophy of the tournament—the Master of Arms. The men’s teams events were won outright by United. In the women’s teams foil, the surprising defeat of Mrs Jekyll by the University captain, Mrs D. Scott, gave University its first outright win !n this event. The less experienced United team fenced with vigour to take second place. Results were:— Men Electric Foil (open).—G. Low (University) 1, P. Garland (Uni versity) 2, R. Bliss (United) 3 Epee.—G.
