Milwaukee March
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MILWAUKEE
(Wisconsin), Aug. 29. Groups of whites, some shouting “we want slaves,” threw stones and bottles at about 250 predomin-antly-Negro marchers who held a parade through Milwaukee’s south side last night in support of their campaign for desegregated housing in the city. Heavily-armed police, who estimated that some 3000 people lined the two-mile route to march, prevented any serious clash between onlookers and marchers. Only one minor injuiy was reported. Police arrested 10 people. Milwaukee was the scene of serious racial rioting earlier this month. The Milwaukee City Council on four occasions has re-
jected proposed desegregated housing ordinance. Many of the whites shouted obscenities at the marchers, whose ranks included three
11 white Roman Catholic priests and a few white women. 1 The south side is populated . mainly by whites of Polish * I descent.
