Rumania was assured today of the presidency of the next United Nations general assembly. It will be the first time in the United Nation’s 22-year history that the office has been held by a Communist diplomat. The Foreign Minister, Mr Corneliu Manescu, will serve as president
Usually reliable sources said the Rumanian Government now had received commitments of support from 110 member countries.
Shanghai Drought. Radio Shanghai reported yesterday a “severe drought” was threatening the rural areas of Shanghai.—Hong Kong, August 30.
