7 KIWIS INJURED
Test Squad Delayed
(From J. O. COFFEY, N.Z. PA Special Correspondent; SYDNEY.
Injuries to seven potential test candidates have forced the New Zealand Rugby League touring team’s selectors to delay the announcement of the third test squad until Wednesday morning.
The players who received treatment yesterday afternoon were P. J. Schultz, C. E. O’Neil, R. S. J. Irvine, J. K. Dixon, R. W. Bailey, W. P. Southern and A. P. Kriletich. The tour captain, B. E. Castle (torn knee ligaments), and G. J. Woollard (broken nose) have already been declared unfit for the third test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. Both players received their injuries against Ipswich last Tuesday. Southern, who can only hobble on a sprained right ankle, has the most serious of the injuries. Irvine’s ankle, which he sprained against North Queensland, swelled after the test and O’Neil (elbow), Kriletich (thigh) and Bailey (lower calf) all received bruises in the test. Schultz has four stitches above his left eye and Dixon an ankle injury.
The tourists will train this morning and afternoon after a rest day, only the third of the tour, yesterday. The last official function before the test will be tomorrow evening when the team will be the guests of the Manly-War-ringah Rugby League Club.
