Fertiliser Use For Pennies
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, July 2.
Most of New Zealand’s pennies will find their way into fertiliser compounds that will be used in several overseas countries in an operation that will earn about £500,000 in overseas exchange. The Copper Refining and Chemical Company (N.Z.), Ltd., of Onehunga, has bought the estimated 100 tons of pennies from the Government and is manufacturing copper oxide from the coins.
The copper oxide is being sold to large fertilising companies in Australia, South America, and in South-east Asia for um in fertilisers.
