Outside Telecasts

Sir,—Why have there been no outside telecasts of winter sport so far this season? In the main, we have been subjected to overseas sport, and while the quality and presentation of these programmes are high, there is still no real substitute for seeing our sportsmen in action. Judging by the weekly programmes that appear in the “Listener,” other main centres have live telecasts on Saturday afternoons. Why not us?—Yours, etc., SPORT. June 27, 1967. [Mr K. M. Hay, district manager of the N.Z.B.C. replies: “There is not a great deal of viewer interest, in Christchurch, in full-length telecasts of sport at club level; and, necessarily, we have had to be more selective. Film extracts from many local sporting events are shown in news and sports programmes and there will be live telecasts of sport at provincial level, as well as some secondary schools Rugby, in forthcoming months.”]
