Five new measures were introduced and read a first time when Parliament resumed yesterday afternoon.
They were the Navy, Army and Air Force Amendment Bills, the Tourist and Publicity Department Amendment Bill, and the Stamp Duties Amendment Bill. Ministers answered 16 questions. The Wellington City (Cuba Street Mall) Empowering Bill was committed and the Rotorua City Geothermal Energy Empowering Bill received a second reading. The Customs Act Amendment Bill received a third reading and was passed. The House then proceeded to discuss the second reading of the Social Security Amendment Bill. The bill was given > a second reading at 9.23 p.m., and the House proceeded without urgency to debate the second reading of the War Pensions Amendment Bill.
