HUONG TO STAND

Presidency Of South (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) VUNG TAU (South Vietnam), May 26. Tran' Van Huong, a former Prime Minister who once worked as a coolie rather than collaborate with the French colonial administration, yesterday announced his longexpected candidacy for the presidency of South Vietnam, the “New York Times” News Service reported. Interviewed in a villa placed at his disposal by the ruling generals who overthrew him in 1965, Mr Huong rejected suggestions that he accept the vice-presidential nomination with the leading military candidate, Air Vice-Marshal Nguyen Cao Ky. He counts on support from his native Mekong delta, which is opposed to the northernborn Air Vice-Marshal Ky, from South Vietnamese cities, especially Saigon, and from central Vietnam where the Government’s crackdown on the Buddhists last year has alienated many citizens.
