Our wretched Race, untutored By History’s Pages, ‘Conventionally* accoutred, Drearily rages. ’Conventional*! Kind Heaven, What Sanction’s built • Into the Word, to leaven This Lump of Guilt? Will Doom, as It falls, be dilatory, Or pick and choose, A nice tidy Terror the Military Are able to USE? One that treats human Issues Like the Surgeon’s Art, Excising, sterilising Tissues In the troubled Part? The Precise Bomb that won’t blow Up in OUR Bases, Or dirty our Hands (You know?) With What It effaces? So USEABLE, Sir, so tactical, We’ll wonder how We managed with such impractical Deterrents, till now?
