Horse Boxes At Riccarton

Sir,—As a Racecourse road resident, I am concerned over a proposal to erect stables on adjacent land, particularly when the council has plans to develop a part. I understand the land is properly toned recreational and not commercial. A part would benefit the whole community and not just a small coterie. Contrary to Mr Bell’s statement, if the proposed stables are sited similarly to ones recently built, they will be less than 50 yards from this and other residences. It seems unreasonable that similar unsightly buildings should spoil sens of land by monopolising a co mpleto road frontage when ample land is available bordering the racecourse proper and behind those already erected. General depredation in land values will ensue. If the standards of maintenance and hygiene of these buildings are on a par with that of a home track, also along Racecourse road, residents have oven more to fear.— Your ’’ Irate resident.
