Arrest Near Tekapo

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, May 9. A man arrested this afternoon at Irishman Creek, about 10 miles from Lake Tekapo, will appear In the Timaru Magistrate’s Court tomorrow charged with car conversion. Further charges were pending, said Constable J. W. Lester, of Lake Tekapo. A police party from Timaru this morning searched the Simons Pass area without success after it had been reported that tiyo vehicles had been converted and abandoned, damaged, in the Mackenzie County. Later, Mr F. Smith, inspector to the Tekapo Rabbit Board, telephoned Constable Lester to say he had seen a man in the Windy Ridge area. Constable Lester chartered a light aircraft, which landed at the Windy ridge airstrip, and arrested the man Mr Smith had been watching. A rifle was subsequently found in Irishman Creek. Constable Lester said the police were grateful to Mr Smith.
