Increases In Some Cases

An increase of 168 per cent in the number of diarrhoea and vomiting cases reported from March 20 to April 16 over those reported from February 20 to March 19, is shown in the report issued by the research committee of the Canterbury Faculty of the College of General Practitioners.

With returns received from 65 doctors, as against 66 in the previous four-week period, diarrhoea and vomiting cases rose from 90 to 258, vomiting cases from 36 to 109, and diarrhoea cases from 19 to 24.

The number of neural and Intestinal complaints rose from 11 to 15 and seven to 21, respectively. Respiratory complaints decreased from 332 to 308. Staphylococcal infections of all types also showed a substantial decrease.

Chickenpox (28 to 67), mumps and measles all rose but rubella, whooping cough and middle ear infections all decreased. Instances of acute tonsilitis dropped from 219 to 182
