STANDARDS OF TROOPS
Anzac Tattoo In Chch.
In Malaya the New Zealand soldiers were very conscious of the standards set by the troops in two world wars, said Brigadier W. R. K. Morrison, commander of the Southern Military District, when addressing the Christchurch Returned Services' Association Tin Hat Club at the Anzac Tattoo at Jellicoe Hall.
“I was ever conscious that we had to live up to the reputation of you men in the First World War and Second World War,” he said. “We tried to, and I was particularly lucky in the number of Maoris I had.”
Brigadier Morrison was commanding officer of the first New Zealand force to Malaya.
Brigadier T. C. Campbell was chairman Of the tattoo, which was attended by General Poon Wongvises, the deputy director of the Thailand War Veterans.
The toast to the Gallipoli' veterans was proposed by Brigadier J. T. Burrows. Eleven survivors of Gallipoli were present Entertainment was provided by the Tin Hat Club orchestra, conducted by Mr C. Miller, Mr L. Searle (piano) and Mr C. Campbell (concertina). There were songs by Mr M. Clapp and Mr.R. Dalton.
