BUTTER QUOTAS
“Abolition A Disaster” If the quota system governing butter imports into the United Kingdom market was abolished, it would be the worst ;thing that could happen to New Zealand, the chairman of the Dairy Board (Sir Andrew Linton) told a ward conference of the board in Christchurch.
With butter being dumped on the British market the price could fall to 200 s a cwt or lower.
Earlier he had said that there were 80,000 to 100,000 tons of butter in Common Market countries.
This trading year New Zealand had sold 180,000 tons of butter in the United Kingdom, which was 25,000 tons more than last year and the highest amount ever sold on that market, he said.
At present the stock position in the United Kingdom was good and sales of butter were averaging 3500 tons a week.
