City Mission Helps 85
Eighty-five persons had been assisted by the Christchurch City Mission over the last two months, the City Missioner (Captain M. Hart) reported to the St Martin's House of Help auxiliary committee. The assistance given included the provision of fares for 12 people; meals for seven, groceries for 36, and new clothing for one. In addition, 23 issues of free clothing were made to individuals, and eight to needy families. Captain Hart said the mission was thankful to those who had given clothing but there was a continuing demand for used clothing. The mission's opportunity shop ms making good progress and fulfilling a need for those who preferred to buy goods at cheaper rates. The proceeds from the shop went towards paying accounts incurred as a result of assistance given at the mission, he said.
