VIMY RIDGE CEREMONY

The Conservative newspaper "Le Figaro” has said everybody with Franco-Cana-dian friendship at heart would deeply regret France’s failure to send a detachment of troops to the remembrance ceremony at Vimy Ridge last Sunday. The Duke of Edinburgh attended, and British and Canadian Army units took part in the ceremony near Arras, northern France, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the epic Canadian assault during the First World War. The French Government was represented by General Herve Marquez, Commander of France’s 21st Army Division at Lille, but no French .troops took part
