Filming Of Races
The Marlborough Racing Club will be the first in the South Island to use video tape for the filming of races.
Temporary towers have been erected on the Waterlea course to house the equipment to be used at the club’s annual meeting which begins on Saturday.
Race filming by the conventional camera is nothing new to the South Island. It was introduced by the Canterbury Jockey Club and has been in
regular use at Riccarton for some time. The Riverton Racing Club also uses the same method now.
The use of video tape for the filming of races was pioneered by the Manawatu Racing Club. It is also used at Tauherenikau. The advantages of this method is that the film is available for viewing before the field has returned to the birdcage. This ensures a minimum of delay for judicial committees conducting Inquiries.
