MEN OF THE IST RANGER SQUADRON, SPECIAL AIR SERVICE, on their way to the base camp on Great Barrier Island, Auckland, after being dropped by parachute. Forty-five men were dropped on to Claris airfield and made the long hike over nigged country to the squadron’s camp on the other side of the island. Their fortnight’s exercises include instruction in handling small boats, cliff climbing, and shooting. The Navy and Air Force have been supporting the squadron by transporting men and supplies to and from the island.
