Stock On The Road
Sir,—l think that the Automobile Association is rather inconsiderate to suggest that stock should not be walked along the road. What about coming to a compromise, which could lead to less inconvenience for both parties? Farmers could be allowed to move stock during certain
times of the day—perhaps before 9 a.m. in the districts away from towns and cities, and for a period after 9 a.m. in the farming districts close to industrial settlements. Farmers might also be allowed to move their stock in the late afternoon or early evening. The Automobile Association would probably know the hours when there is least traffic on the roads, and the farmers should be allowed to make use of this time.— SOPHOCLES. April 10, 1967.
