Golden Guy Wins At Ellerslie

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Golden Guy, which had run third on the first day, finished strongly for a narrow win in the John Dewar Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double on the second day of the Whangarei Jockey Club’s meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday. Golden Guy won by a long head from Capelin. Town Guard was a length back third, well clear of Miss Misty. The favourite, High Voltage, failed to reproduce the form that won him the big race on Friday, and he finished a moderate fifth. Unpainted had a decisive win in the second leg, the Onerahi Handicap. She was too good over the final stages and had two lengths to spare from Boodle. The win favourite, Admiral Donnington, finished brilliantly for third after being near the tail of the field at the home turn. The Golden Guy-Unpainted combination paid £95 3s 6d for £l. The weather was fine and the track was fast. Results: — PARUA BAY HURDLES, £400; about Um. and 60yds.—1/2 CABALLERO (1) 9-7 K. J. Mauriri 1; 6/6 JIM DOOLAN (5) MB. L.
