BAKER CASE
Gaol Term Imposed '(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) WASHINGTON, April 9. Bobby Baker, a former protege of President Johnson, was sentenced on Friday to between one and three years in gaol on charges of tax evasion, conspiracy, and theft involving thousands of dollars. Baker, who rose from Senate page boy to secretary to the then majority leader in the Senate, Mr Lyndon B. Johnson, was sentenced to from one to three years on each of seven counts, but Judge Oliver Gasch ruled that they should run concurrently. Aged 38, he was convicted last January. He was found guilty of converting to his own use about 80,000 dollars contributed to the Democratic Party campaign funds, much of it spent on a debt-ridden motel in Atlantic City of which he was part-owner.
