A statement by the National Front for Liberation said the New Zealand Minister of Defence (Mr Thomson) had personally gone to Saigon on Wednesday to “discuss with the U.S, puppets in South Vietnam New Zealand participation in the United States aggression in South Vietnam. “Now that the more than 420,000 United States troops and nearly 700,000 puppet and satellite troops are badly trounced in South Vietnam, how can a few hundred New Zealand mercenaries save the United States aggressors from complete failure?” the statement asked.
