Birth Control In Egypt
fN.g.Pul.-acutcrl CAIRO. Egyptian officials are busy promoting birth control campaigns throughout the country to combat a population explosion which has brought the total to nearly 31 million people. A recent report stated that this steep rise in population is foiling aU attempts to raise the general standard of living. It is necessary, it added, to improve educational standards so that people, particularly in the rural areas, wiH accept birth control. This is a controversial subject among the big Moslem majority, many of whom consider that it is forbidden by the Koran, their holy book. Latest statistics published here show that the population has risen by 4,000,000 since 1960, to reach 30,083,419 in 1966.
