RANGI-RURU DEBUTANTES
Twenty-three debutantes were presented to Mrs C. W. Ballantyne, President of the Rangi-ruru Old Girls’ Association at the Association’s Annual Ball held in the Winter Garden last night The debutantes were presented with gold and white posies, gifts of the association, by Mrs Ballantyne. Mrs T. R. Caldwell trained the debutantes. Massed arrangements of chrysanthemums decorated the foyer and ballroom, and plotted plants in pinks and reds embellished the stage. Mirrors in the ballroom were draped with ivy, and shrubs surrounded the dance floor. Those who made their debut were: Misses Dorenda Britten, Dianne Cain, Mary-Anne Cameron, Jean Dodgson, Janet Gardner (Scargill), Janis Hancock, Robyn Hunt (Hororata), Robyn Moore, Dianne Mora, Stephanie Naylor, Christine Palmer (Marlborough), Jill Perkins, Valmai Fronting (Peel Forest), Elizabeth Rainey (Woodend), Sandra Reid, Penny Sarjeant, Sara Sugden, Lorraine Sutherland, Elizabeth Suckling, Barbara Thiele, Jennifer White, Gael Twiss, Brionie Wylie. Mrs Ballantyne wore a gown of wedgwood blue crepe, the empire bodice softly draped to form a deep neckline at the back.
Mrs Patrick, the Rangi-ruru principal, chose a gown of deep turquoise blue chiffon. The hand-shirred bodice
dipped to a V at the back. The full skirt was softly gathered.
Miss Joan Hanna, the secretary of the organising committee, wore a gown of cherry delustred satin, with a swathed neckline and a deep inverted pleat at the back skirt. Specially invited guests included: the principal, Mrs M. G. Patrick; the president of the Parent-Teacher Association; Mr D. E. Dalzell and Mrs Dalzell; Miss E. Somyns Thomas, Dr. and Mrs J. R. Dawson, Miss Betty Webb; and representatives of kindred associations, Christchurch Girls’ High School, Mr and Mrs L. Cox; St. Mary’s Convent, Dr. and Mrs R. I. Steel; St Margaret’s College, Mr and Mrs J. N. Matson; Christ’s College, Mr and Mrs S. G. Lester; St. Andrew’s College, Mr and Mrs J. G. Gunn. Members of the committee who organised the ball were: president Mrs C. W. Ballantyne; secretary, Miss J. Hanna; treasurer, Mrs D. E. Dalzell; committee, Mesdames B. Bluck, T. R. Caldwell, J. S. Callaway, D. B. Dallas, C. W. Deal, G. Dunbar 1 , K. W. Frampton, D. C. Parker, B. A. Turner, Misses J. Goss, D. McMillan, L. McAllister.
