ANGLICAN BOOKSHOP
Closure Announced Although sales at the Anglican bookshop in Church House were very good, the bookshop is to close. The Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. W. A Pyatt) said yesterday that sales were not sufficient to make the shop self-supporting, and it was felt that the church could not afford to keep subsidising it The bookshop, which was opened 18 months ago, sold educational religious books as well as books on theology and other religious matters. Teaching material, including Sunday school books and prayer books, will still be available at Church House. The Bishop said that because there were already other religious bookshops in Christchurch when the Anglican bookshop was opened, there was not sufficient demand to keep the shop in a sound financial position.
