FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —Pressures are high east of the North Island and over the Tasman Sea. A shallow trough of low pressure over the South Island is moving slowly northwards. Forecast: Kaikoura Coast, North and Central Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds; cloudy with scattered light rain; cool. South Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds; occasional light rain with falling temperatures. Central Marlborough and the Sounds.—Northwest winds at first, fresh in exposed places, but a change to cool south-easterlies is likely to develop during the day; cloudy with scattered light rain later. Nelson.—Moderate variable winds; cloudy and tending cooler, with some areas of light rain developing. Buller and Westland. Moderate variable winds; unsettled with some further rain, but tending to clear later from the south; cool. Outlook.—Mainly fine in Buller and Westland, areas of drizzle in other areas at first, but improving to partly cloudy during the day. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
