British Overseas Airways Corporation’s new 13,560-mile South Pacific route between London and Sydney would open next Saturday, “The Times” said.
The airline's Boeing 7075,. flying through New York, Sanl Francisco, Honolulu and Fiji three times a week, would give 8.0.A.C. a second round-! world service. The airlines would take about 33 hours for the journey. Excursion Fares The new service coincides with the introduction of lower fares to boost Pacific tourism approved at the International Air Transport Association's j traffic conference in Honolulu last October. Inducements in-| elude 28-day excursion fares between North America and Australia-New Zealand. Fares are as low as 75 per cent of the normal economy class costs. 8.0.A.C.'s new service is being flown in association with Qantas, and Air New Zealand. Qantas will fly the complete route between Sydney and London four times weekly so that with 8.0.A.C.’s three a week, there will be a daily service leaving from both ends. Air New Zealand has two
flights weekly between Sydney, Auckland, Honolulu and Los Angeles. With the addition of other Qantas services over the south Pacific—including those between Sydney and London through Mexico City—the three Commonwealth airlines will provide 14 flights weekly across the South Pacific.
