Australian Athletes Prepare For Games
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA. Australian athletes have begun their high altitude preparation for the Olympic Games in Mexico City next year.
A leading coach, Mr P. Cerutty, has been called in as a consultant at a training camp high in the Snowy Mountains. The camp is at 7000 ft—the altitude at which the games will be run in Mexico City. Its two-fold purpose is to acclimatise athletes both physically and mentally, to the difference in running in the rarefied atmosphere with its lower oxygen content. Twelve athletes, ail of them Olympic prospects or im proving youngsters, attended the camp over the Easter week-end. They lived in a ranger’s hut and traiped on the rugged windswept slopes of Mount Gungarten.
