PLAYOFF IN FOURS
Chch. Club Wins
A team from the Christchurch Bowling Club won the play-off of the open three fours competition when it beat a DaHington team, S 5-45, at Fendalton on Saturday.
The winning teams were: P. McCormack, J. Hewitson, J. R. Smith and R. A. Lulham (skip); W. Clark, E. Standring, E. Tremberth and K. Smith (skip): I. Williken, S. Denton, F. L. Donnelly and D. Langley (skip). Lulham's team began well with a seven and a three, to lead 12-0 after four ends, and the lead was increased to 16-4 at the end of the eleventh. D. K. McKendry’s Dallington team of G. A. Rowland. J. Garven and C. Barnett fought back well during the remaining ends but lost 14-22.
K. Smith’s team and th* Dalllngton team of H. McCree, V. Claridge, D. K. Stewart and L. Newton (skip) were seven-all after eight ends. By the thirteenth, Christchurch had gone to a 14-11 lead, but Dalllngton came back to win 17-14 at the last end.
In the last game, between Langley’s team and K. I. McAllister, D. Martin, E. Greenwood and R. Plrrie (skip), good leading by McAllister gave Dallington a 8-2 lead by the end of the seventh end and 11-9 by the sixteenth. As the green became faster Christchurch improved and excessive use of the drive by both Greenwood and Pirrie enabled them to win 17-14.
Revenge Cher Malvern
The Christchurch Bowling Centre won its match against the Malvern sub-centre, by 188135, at Darfleld on Saturday. Malvern won thia event last year.
The Christchurch bowlers found the fast green to their liking.
