Canterbury Athletes Dominant In Westport

Canterbury athletes and senior cyclists almost completely dominated the Buller amateur championship meeting held at Westport on Saturday. Twelve new records were established, most of them by visitors.

The outstanding achievement was that of R. Tayler, of Timaru, national junior halfmile champion, who recorded Imin 53.75ec in that event—a Buller and Canterbury record, and only o.7sec off the New Zealand junior record. Tayler was not extended to win that race and also the mile.

Another impressive winner was the New Zealand marathon champion, G. McKenzie, of Greymouth, who took the men’s three-mile title, easily outclassing a fairly strong field. Tennis Trophy To Northland

(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI. Northland scored a convincing 9-3 win over Wellington in the final Nunneley Casket women’s tennis match of the season, at Whangarei during the week-end. The two top Northland players, Mrs E. Mitchell and Mrs P. Stevens, were in brilliant form and won all their games in stright sets. Wellington’s best player was the number three, Mrs I. Vause, who won one singles match and teamed up with Miss S. Pope to score in a doubles game.

This is the first time NorthLand has won a national teams’ tennis trophy.

Mardon First In Hill Climb
