DAIMLER V8 MANUAL
A manual transmission version of the Daimler 2.5-litre V 8 is now available. Previously the car has been produced only with automatic transmission. The new gearbox has four forward speeds, all synchromesh, and overdrive, operating on top gear only, is available as an option. The Daimler V 8 engine produces 140 b.h.p. at 5800 r.p.m. In New Zealand the new manual transmission model will cost about £2375. The automatic costs about £2387.
Lifebuoy The season for swimming andpAcnics is almost over, although there will probably be a few days yet when the family can be taken to the river. Rivers can be dangerous, and young persons in particular can sometimes get into difficulties where some form of lifebuoy would be invaluable. If this ever happens to you, remember that a spare tyre makes an excellent lifebuoy in an emergency, and the larger tyres can support at least two adults for a time. Quote of the Week “Walking is a slow and painful business (1 believe they still do it in some remote parts of Britain, but it is dying out) and running is quite out of the question, because anyone doing this these days is immediately apprehended and accused of being an escaped prisoner. But there is an answer: we must all travel on the pavements on roller skates. . . .’’—Ralph Thoresby in the “Motor.”
