St. Bede’s Big Win

St. Bede’s College beat St. Patrick’s College (Silverstream) by an innings and five runs when their annual cricket match ended at St. Bede’s yesterday. On Monday, St. Bede’s batted first and scored 293 in 288 minutes, mainly because of an aggressive 143 by the captain, R. Campbell. B. Bryant was the best of the St. Patrick bowlers, taking five wickets for 83 with his right-arm leg-cutters. St. Patrick’s made only 137 In its first innings and, forced to follow on. fared little better In making 151 in its second innings. The visitor’s captain, M. Nicholls, batted well to score 51 and 32. and had good support in the first innings from M McCathay 132) and in the second from Bryant (42 not out).
