Collinge May Get Place
No change has been made In the New Zealand team for the third test, which begins at Lancaster Park tomorrow, writes R. T. Brittenden. Retention of the 12 who assembled at New Plymouth and Dunedin for the first two internationals was expected, but there must be a strong prospect of R. O. Collinge coming into the side for the third game. The Lancaster Park pitch, in contrast with those at New Plymouth and Carisbrook, will probably give the seam bowlers of both sides a stronger hand than they have held in the series so far.
There may be a temptation to play all four of New Zealand’s pace bowlers for R. S. Cunis, a tireless man, could be very useful, particularly if there is some into-wind bowling to be done.
But that would demand a reduction in the list of specialist batsmen to five, and the probable omission of K. Thomson, who has not been entirely convincing so far.
However, Thomson made a useful score at Carisbrook, and will probably be included for a match which, on his home ground, could allow him to display his undoubted talent.
Cunis, on the other hand, has not loked at all penetrative in his limited bowling spells against the Australians and the probability is that he will be twelfth man.
Collinge, who has not yet been seen by the Australian batsmen, could be a danger to the tourists, with his pace and bounce and unfamiliar left-hand-er’s line.
