Two Centuries By College Batsmen
Centuries by R. Fulton (109) •nd A. Morten (107) enabled Christ’s College to gain a strong position in its match against Christchurch Boys' High School at the college grounds yesterday. After being sent in to bat, Christ’s College made 343 in 314 minutes on an easy-paced wicket and the school is one wicket down for 17 at the close.
Fulton's innings, his third century this season, was full of crisp attacking shots and his driving off the front foot was often majestic. He batted 229 minutes and his innings included 18 fours and two sixes. Fulton and Morten added 151 in 128 minutes for the fourth wicket. It took Morten 177 minutes
to make his 107 and although It was not as sound as Fulton’s his was a very good Innings. He also hit 18 fours and some beautifully-timed lofted drives.
S. Squires bowled his rightarm off-spinners very accurately taking five wickets for 125 off 44 overs. He flighted the ball well and often spun the ball past the bat sharply. He kept the school’s bowling attack together when it showed signs of wilting. Christchurch lost an early wicket when a brilliant throw by Fulton broke the stumps, running out Squire in the first over. This match also counts for points in the 2A grade. Christchurch B.H.S. needs a first innings win to win the grade and Christ’s College requires a first innings win to avoid relegation. CHRIST’S COLLEGE First Innings R.
