UMPIRE’S COMPLAINT
Not Told Of Declaration An umpire complained of a lack of courtesy shown to him and his colleague by the St. Albans senior team captain, at a meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association’s Management committee last evening. Mr W. R. Hobbs said that the St. Albans captain had not told him or his colleague of his Intention to declare at the overnight total when the senior grade match between St. Albans and Sydenham was continued last Saturday. Mr Hobbs said that he and his colleagues were In the middle of the pitch, closely followed by the Sydenham team, before he was told by a Sydenham player that St. Albans had declared He said that this was the second time this season such an Incident had occurred. It was agreed that the Canterbury Umpires Association should frame a suitable rule stating that umpires must be informed when a declaration is made. A donation of £2OO was received from a former president of the association. Mr J. Redpath. He asked that the money be used for schoolboy cricket. The Australian and New Zealand test teams will arrive in Christchurch this morning. The Australians will stay at the Blenheim Road Motor Inn. and the New Zealanders at the Clarendon. Both teams are likely to ha\e a net practice today, from 2.15 p.m. until 4.30 p.m.
