ECONOMIC CURBS
Protest By Branch The Woolston branch of the New Zealand Labour Party has sent a letter of protest to the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) about the removal of subsidies. The branch says it feels that the direct increases in the cost of the basic necessaries have created hardships in many cases. “Deep concern was also expressed regarding the announced curtailment of Government public expenditure. In the opinion of members this will have serious repercussions throughout the whole internal economy of New Zealand in the very near future,” says the letter. “We are deeply concerned by the above actions taken by you and your Government in view of the fact that during the last General Election the National Party led the electors to believe that the economy of New Zealand was in a healthy state, when in fact the very reverse was the case ”
