Cycling Postponement “Came As Relief”

"It was with considerable relief to all concerned when the championships were finally abandoned.” Mr H. F. Litolff told the Canterbury Amateur Cycling Centre last evening. Mr Litolff was reporting on the New Zealand hard track championships which were held, intermittently, at Western Springs stadium. Auckland, last week.

Mr Litolff paid tribute to the juniors, B. G. Stockwell and S. J. Stephen —"who really put Canterbury to the fore with a brilliant performance in the junior pursuit”—and P. D. Brydon, who "turned in two mighty performances in the boys’ events.”

Of Brydon. Mr Litolff said he "gained a very fine second in the quarter-miie. Then, in one of the roughest one-mile events that I have witnessed, he came

through brilliantly . . . after having to struggle through mud and water, after he was bumped down inside the pole line and also suffered a flat tyre." M. W. Lltolff was seen as the disappointment, but D. A. Swanston, “I thought could have been

a big threat in the ipnnU; he seemed to go from strength to strength.” Postponement.—The madison event scheduled for next Sunday was postponed to December 19, early next season. Records.—.l. H. Cleary’s smln 10.5 sec 4000-metre individual pursuit last month was approved as a Canterbury record. His application for a New Zealand record for the flying half-mile (55.45ec) was forwarded to the national councU for ratification.
