Jumping Rider To Live In England

AUCKLAND. G. A. Walters, one of the leading jumping riders in the Dominion, will try his luck in England later this year. Walters has booked his passage for October 24. He will be accompanied by Ms wife. - Walters said at Paeroa on Saturday that he has no idea yet where he would go in England but had written to two leading trainers of jumpers about riding positions In their stables.
'•I thought I may as well make the break while I am still young," said Walters. “If I don't crack into the game over there after a couple of seasons I can always return home. “I’m not going to sell my property at Matamata, so I will always have something to come back to if I do no good.’ Walters also hopes to ride In France.
Walters served Ms apprenticeship with R. G. Stenning at Ellerslie and has been riding about seven years. Increasing weight restricted his riding on the flat as an apprentice.
Last winter Walters won the Great Northern Hurdles on Macdonald and the McGregor Grant Steeplechase on the veteran Ringlock. Walters will ride for J. W. Winder's stable this winter before going overseas.
