N.Z. Runners-Up In Women’s Athletics
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. The Australian athletes, Miss J. Lamy and Mrs J. Pollock, put up world-class performances on a rain-affected track at Sydney on Saturday.
Competing in the women’s R.H. North trans-Tasman Cup match between New South Wales, Victoria, and New Zealand, Miss Lamy won the 100 metres in 11.4 sec and Mrs Pollock the 400 metres in 53sec.
Mrs Pollock’s time was three-tenths of a second faster than the previous N.S.W. state record she had set in March last year. Victoria, which was admitted to the trans-Tasman competition for the first time this season, won the trophy with 63 points. New Zealand (53) was second and N.S.W. (49) third. The first day of the eompeti-
tion was held in Melbourne last Wednesday.

100 Metres. —J. Lamy (N.S.W.) 1, B. Matthews (N.Z.) 2, B. Holman (Vic.) 3. Time, 11.4. High Jump.—P. Kenny (N.Z.) 1, P. McCallum (N.S.W.) 2, P. Kilborn (Vic.) ?. Height, 5:5. Discus.— J. Roberts (Vic.) 1. D. Charteris (N.Z.) 2, Lamy 3. Distance, 157:6.
400 Metres.—J. Pollock (Vic.) 1, S. Potts (N.Z.) 2. J. Byrnes (N.S.W.) 3. Time, 53.0.
Miss Matthews won an invitation long jump event, with a distance of 18ft 21in.
