Former Policeman Gaoled For Theft

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, March 10.

A former police constable who broke into four premises in Auckland and stole property valued at £263 14s 7d while engaged on night patrol duty was gaoled for six months today by Mr W. J. Meade, S.M.

Errol Peter Rhodes, aged 33, now employed in a driving firm, last week admitted eight charges of theft and four of burglary. The Magistrate said the case was made very much more serious because Rhodes was a serving police officer when he committed the offences. Over a considerable period he had betrayed the trust placed in him. He was giving full weight

to the doctor’s report which indicated a personality change, and he noted that Rhodes had co-operated fully in assisting the police with details of the offences.
