The appointee would have overall responsibility for current and proposed courses in German under the general direction of the Head of the Department. Courses in German were first introduced at this University in 1964. At present German is 1 taught only as a first year subject: as German Studies, which is a one-year course for non- ■ specialists, and as German I - which is the prerequisite fo” more advanced studies. It is proposed to introduce a second--5 year course, German 11, in the near future, to be followed at an early date by German 111, which would then enable stu- • dents to major in German at this University.
