C.A.R.P.

Sir,—l would like to ask “Careful Shopper” why should biscuits, ice-cream and sweets not be included in a shopping list. One can still buy carefully and include these items in moderation. I know housewives who never buy a biscuit but fill innumerable tins with tasteful rubbish harmful to the health of the whole family. And are we so hard up that children can no longer enjoy ice-cream? Buying the block is economical and convenient and a bag of sweets tucked away on a high shelf has come to my rescue many times. I do not approve of any of these items used in excess but I. do not agree they should be forfeited altogether. And I think that "Careful Shopper” was very hasty in her judgment of the CA.R.P. shopper.— Yours, etc., SENSIBLE SHOPPER. February 28, 1967.
