Horticultural Show
Sir, —We wish to offer thanks to the citizens of Christchurch who so generously contributed £75 into the wishing well in Hagley Park as part of the decorations for the flower show, held during the week just past. This money will be passed by the Soroptimist Club of Christchurch to the Red Cross to aid the Tasmanian fire relief fund. The Soroptimist Club wishes also to thank the management committee of the Canterbury Horticultural Society for its permission so willingly given the club to place the well at the show.— Yours, etc., MARGARET CRADOCK, President. February 28, 1967.
Sir,—“A thing of beauty is a joy for ever,” and I am sure those who visited the Christchurch Horticultural Society’s recent exhibition will always remember it When in Britain some years ago I visited the renowned Chelsea Show in London which, of course, was an enormous affair, but I can honestly say that I enjoyed this last one here much more. The wonderful exhibits of roses so fresh and beautifully arranged were alone worth a visit and those from India, Ceylon, Mexico and Holland were lovely, and so interesting.-Then the dahlias and fuschias were a real revelation, so many varieties being represented, while the vegetable section provided some humorous items. It was a pity more people, especially children were not able to see it—Yours, etc., M. E. WILSON. February 27, 1967.
