Life Raft Shortage
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI. With less than three months to go before the start of the Whangarei to Noumea yacht race, entrants are facing a problem of import restrictions —the purchase of inflatable life rafts. This will be the first time in New Zealand ocean racing history when rubber life rafts will be permitted instead of the usual dinghy. According to advice received by the Onerahi Yacht Club, the stocks of life rafts in New Zealand are exhausted and it will take 12 to 14 weeks to get some into this country. Agents in New Zealand have informed the club they will give favourable consideration to bone fide entrants in the race for any import licence applications.
