UPSET IN SOCCER
League Team Beats Police A team of Christchurch Rugby League Club senior players caused the major upset when it beat Police at the opening last evening of the Can. terbury indoor soccer competition at Cowles Stadium. Police, whose members have alii played Indoor and outdoor soccer, were beaten, 2-1, by the league players who, although outclassed In the skills of the game, pulled through on enthusiasm and determination. Two Rugby League clubs, Christchurch and Papanui, are entered in the indoor competition which is being run by the Technical Soccer Club: The competition will run for 10 weeks.
Last year’s winner, New Brighton, won both Us games, scoring six goals and conceding none. Results. —Round one: High School Old Boys 3, Police 0; Christchurch League 2, Papanui 0; Technical 4, Hornby 1; Overseas Carpets 3, Addington Workshops 2; New Brighton 4, University 0. Round two: High School Old Boys 9, Papanui League 0; Christchurch League 2, Police 1; Addington Workshops 5, Hornby 1; University 3, Overseas Carpets 2; New Brighton 2, Technical 0.
