‘Little Support For Sanctions‘

(N .ZJ>.A.-Reuter—Copyright) JOHANNESBURG, January 22. The South African Minister of Economics (Dr. N. Diederichs) said yesterday he found little support for sanctions against Rhodesia in Europe, and Europeans did not want sanctions to be applied against South Africa.

On his return from a threeweek official tour of western European capitals, Dr. Diederichs said he found very little support for sanctions wherever he went.

He has been studying Common Market developments and the possible effects of British membership on South African trade, and said he was convinced during his visit to London that the British Government and people would do everything to avoid sanctions being applied against South Africa. “I think there is little

chance of sanctions being applied against the Republic. The people do not want it. I do not think governments want it. . . .”
