SHOWERS IN COTTAGES

Electric fires and showers will be provided by the Paparua County Council in pensioner cottages which it proposes to build at Hornby. Reporting to the council at its monthly meeting a subcommittee said that inquiry among pensioner tenants showed that half favoured electric as against open fires, and 10 were in favour of showers instead of baths as against four not in favour. The electric fires would save £33 a unit, while the showers would cost an extra £45, it was said. The council also decided to have concrete floors In the new cottages and to supply suitable covering in the bedsitting rooms.

The second block of 10 pensioner cottages would be completed on December 16 and handed over to the tenants on December 17, it was reported.
